Barbiturates are sedative drugs that can cause sleepiness, numbness, and and a relief from anxiety. some barbiturates are used medically as sleeping pills, for headache and anesthesia, and to prevent seizures. others are used for recreational alcohol-like intoxication. ..

DOLLS AND DEVILS

Barbiturates are stable compound of barbituric acid, discovered in 1864, by the German Pharmaceutical firm if Dr. Adolph Von Bayer. the first marketed barbiturate, barbital was promoted as a sleeping pill in 1903. it was followed in 1912 by phenobarbital, a drug that is still in medicine use.

Barbiturates has many medicinal use depending on the strength and the particular chemical characteristics of the individual compound. they produce a wide spectrum of central nervous system depression and cause effects ranging from mild sedation to severe coma. this damping-down action is the opposite of the drug stimulation, and makes barbiturates useful as sedatives, sleeping pills, anesthetics, and anticonvulsant.

Three types of Barbiturates:

Long-acting Barbiturate- with an effect lasting for 12 - 24 hours, these include the original barbital, phenobarbital, and mephobarbital. they are useful for day time sedation, and for treatment of mild anxiety and seizure disorders.

Intermediate or short acting barbiturates- with effects typically lasting for 6-7 hours this include pentobarbital,  secobarbital, butalbital, talbutal and aprobarbital. short acting barbiturates behave much like an alcohol, producing light excitement in small dose, pleasant feeling in moderate, and causing heavy stupor-like conditions in high doses.

very short-acting barbiturate- when injected, these have effects within one minute and cause almost immediate unconsciousness. they are used medically for anesthesia, and include mathahexital thiamylal, and thiopental.

barbiturates has been used as a number of suicidal cults, they are recommended in the popular suicidal book. the book of exit. it says there that barbiturate is a way to commit painless suicide.

long term use of barbiturates can result in continual drowsiness and sluggishness, shortened memory and attention span, loss of coordination, and awareness, emotional instability, rashes, nausea, anxiety and nervousness, involuntary eye movements, staggering gait, slurred speech, and trembling hands.

paranoid delusion and increased hostility may lead to a barbiturate trademark-violence.
